The Look: Up & Down

I’ve started to realize it is becoming a problem for people to differentiate casual from business outfits and business from casual outfits during these hot summer months.  Believe me, I get it, it’s HOT.  Shorts and sandals are a must, but girls, we can still dress for the occasion in the right way. I have faith…

Depending on where you work, there are different levels of appropriate.  Your outfit at a PR agency sure isn’t the same as at a law firm, however with a little creativity, you make any piece work in any situation.

Okay, here’s the part where I explain how:
Take this awesome crop top from Eight Sixty.

You’re probably thinking I’d wear that to lunch or a concert… but definitely NOT work. But when you throw a blazer on, add a high-waisted pencil skirt and pop on heels – all of the sudden BAM, work appropriate.

The key is tailored pieces and polished accessories, oh and making sure that you aren’t showing skin.

Just to prove my point, let’s try it again...

When purchasing camis like the red one pictured above, I like to get ones with adjustable straps. This way you have the option of making it more appropriate for business casual attire.

If you really want to take a risk you could try this with a tank as well:

Last one...

Here are some suggestions when trying this out on your own:

-       Ask yourself: Can I put something over it? Under it? Can I dress it up? Dress it down?
What would it look like with pants? Maybe try a different color pant?
-       Would a belt and a scarf make it more appropriate?
-        Also remember accessories make the outfit; just be careful not to overdo it.
-       And finally if you love it, you can always find a way to make it work
